In the distant past, buying advertising on TV at least on a network basis has been not only expensive but nearly impossible for a local or even regional enterprise. However, RTV –aka Retro TV is a different critter. The rates that RTV charges for a nationwide campaign is much less than most local area TV stations charge for even the most available off prime time ad placements. With that said I had an encounter with the local ad sales department of Cable-One here in Twin Falls. Simply because the local cable company runs SOA on Tuesdays on FX. Otherwise I would have never bothered with them. Now here is the clincher. Its not the paying for the ad placement itself but the production of the ad, that is being touted as having to be very tame. Despite that SOA runs after the prime time ,time frame, plus the fact that from border to border of Idaho , running a spot that is even a bit racy is not permitted. The question then needs to be asked, to retain continuity between SOA and us in both the Knytes as well as the AyreWolvez, how can you stay tame and still retain that continuity? Not to talk our local cable company out of running the show, but if your going to run a biker show, should you not then be willing to run an ad that’s within the same genre as the show itself? Its no wonder that Cable-One needs to feed itself on running promo ads for potential advertisers. It’s also a reason few if any call Cable-One directly to get ad business. If the way they treated me this morning is any indication of how they treat other business’s , its no wonder that Cable-One’s ad department needs to blow its own horn so much to gain that local ad revenue. Then they tell me that there is no local avails, during Ice Road Truckers, excuse me? According to the History Channel who runs IRT, there are 4 avails each hour or two per half hour. Does our local ad reps not know of this? I called our local Harley dealer here, their response was that Cable-One has never contacted them to run ads on SOA. It’s no wonder that so many business’s in this area, have pledged that if we get our media werx running that they would buy in droves. Simply because we know our product, we know its reach , and we are not afraid to run a racy ad, simply because it might piss off the Mormon , or very(very) Conservative mindsets here. The next step is producing the ad. That in my next entry, but the big ? here is this if your going to blow your own horn, should you not be willing to do the job, of which you say you can do? If not , Cable-One, shut up. Like I said not everyone is a Confederate Marine, not everyone is a Knyte and fewer are AyreWolvez.
My opinion , I could be wrong.
