There are tons of folks out there that think I’m pulling more than their hairs when I speak of the organization that was the foundation that begat the Knytes-of-Anarchy. The reason we as an organization began casting women with trucks was not our original idea. The business model , no pun intended, was Overdrive Magazine at least the original OVERDRIVE, that had some , in today’s still too Victorian view racy.
And yet some that say wasn’t so, guess this proves that in fact it was so. The Independent Truckers Association which was the parent organization that primed the pump for the creation of Overdrive in mid 1961 was the primer of the TeenAge Truckers Association that later became the Knytes-of-Anarchy, the parent organization of us here in the AyreWolvez. As Overdrive just began the operation of a Overdrive Retro web site, with some of the older covers and features that made Overdrive , well, OVERDRIVE, was the reason we as a young OTR truckers group then, began recruiting honeys to pose with trucks. Even after that when the Road Commanders Association was formed as a side saddle to the TTA as the only young towing professionals organization, we thought , following in the tire marks of Overdrive to pose sweet body’s with custom and vintage tow trucks. Overdrive is honored for one thing, the publication and the organization Independent Truckers Association included us in the towing industry as an important part of the OTR trucking industry. Insomuch so Overdrive had a section called Wrecker of the Month where a fresh, or custom heavy tow truck was featured. It might be mentioned here, it was one of those that gave birth to the name I founded my towing company on, the truck was called the Happy Hooker, a bit of rework on the name and Highway Hooker Towing was born. Which by the highway remains the parent company of both Dixie Towing of Idaho, and SpeedWrench Towing of Utah. Highway Hooker Towing remains operational in both Wyoming and Arizona. It might be mentioned here as well, inasmuch as I am and will continue to be a member of the OOIDA, still it was and is the ITA that was the grand daddy of all owner operator truckers organizations, and is why the co-parent organization of the Knytes of Anarchy, remains the continuing group called simply the United American Independent Truckers Association. Yes the UAITA is today’s version of the original ITA. Too bad that LandLine Magazine, the industry publication of the OOIDA, can’t be like the original Overdrive, and even worse, why the OOIDA can’t be more like us in the UAITA.
As much as it was, so it is today.
