Many do not count the helicopter as a warbird. In fact many would rather discount the Helicopter’s role in air combat , however those of us who flew these rotor craft both in wartime as well as now in peace time, think our day is at hand. Many warbird shows and museums are for the large part dedicated to the fixed winged aircraft. And as far as I’m concerned I’m getting tired of the P-51 and P-40’s, how about some more attention shed on the F-4-U Corsair. Faster than the P-51, more agile than the P-40 and the savior of WWII, at least in the Pacific theater. However, that said, few can argue although some do, that the helicopter albeit arriving late, still is not only the Nighting gale that saved many a foot soldiers life, from daring rescues to transport to evac and MASH units, to real up front and eye to eye air to air combat. To whit, I say its our time to shine. Thus a project being looked on for 2011 into 2012 is the construction and operation of a warbird Helicopter Museum at the Power County AirPort in American Falls Idaho. From the Bell Sioux to the UH-1 to the infamous BlackHawk, and the UH1-Z
The Apache the AH-64 and so on.
Okay then as I bring this in for a landing , I had someone ask me this morning at coffee what makes us different on AyreWolf Radio from Warbird Radio? The big difference is , that WarBird Radio and not taking anything away from Matt and his crew there, they are doing a fantastic job. The big difference though is the focus. WarBird Radio focus’s alot on fixed wing aircraft. While we at AyreWolf Radio, by its name, focus’s on helicopters, including the fictional and not for long fictional Bell 222A AirWolf mach plus attack helicopter, currently under construction at AyreWolf Aviation Restoration in Bountiful Utah(my company) . That’s the big difference between us and Warbird Radio.
Remember; we are still raising money for the Military Aviators Memorial in Buhl Idaho. We have nearly met our goal, but we need to get some extra for the marble walls. The engraving is also going to be expensive. If you can dig up some money from your war chests we could really use it.
